What to expect.

Your first session will be centered around building therapeutic rapport. Your comfort and ease are most important. My hope is that you feel safe and connected so you can be yourself and heal.

We’ll talk about your reason(s) for seeking counseling, what’s coming up in your life, any background you want to share, and what you hope to get out of our time together. If you scheduled an art therapy session, art will be a part of this process. We can talk about the various counseling tools I draw from in my practice and which ones interest you. Together we’ll curate a plan to best suit you and your goals.

During the following sessions, we’ll dive deeper into what brought you to counseling. We’ll explore not only the content of what’s going on, but also how you’re responding to it and the meaning it has for you. We often react with habitual thought patterns, habitual behaviors, old beliefs, and unresolved trauma responses stored in the body. If doing art therapy, your art will be the primary vehicle of exploration and processing.

When we increase our understanding of ourselves, using compassion and curiosity, our awareness grows, giving us more options and choice into how we take care of ourselves, what we do, how we respond, how we listen to the body. This process, though challenging sometimes, can bring healing and more energy into our lives.

Some clients come into therapy with a particular issue and discover there is more to explore. They want to go deeper and do the work to make lasting changes. This can mean we meet for 8 sessions, or more. Others come in to get support with a specific stressor and find the relief they need after just 2-3 sessions. Other clients prefer to check in once or twice a month for ongoing support. You’re unique and your therapy will be, too!

Schedule a session through my website using the contact page, or call me directly. I offer evening and weekend appointments. If you have any questions, please reach out! I’m happy to talk with you and see if I might be a good fit for you and your process.
